コロンビア大学のTom K. Hei教授より第5回ISSRPRT開催の案内が届きました。マイクロビーム研究に関わる皆様にはご興味がある方もあるかと思いますので、情報を共有いたします。

Dear Colleagues:

Following the Osaka meeting in 2015, we are very pleased to announce that the 5th joint meeting in the series on International Symposium on Space Radiation and Particle Radiotherapy (5th ISSRPRT meeting) will be held in Suzhou, China, on May 24-26, 2017. This joint meeting will include the 8th International Workshop on Space Research (IWSRR) and the 17th Meeting on Ion Beams in Biology and Medicine (IBIBAM). Enclosed please find a welcoming remark from the co-presidents of the meeting, Professors Zhifang Chai and Tom Hei. In recognition of your standing in the space radiation and particle therapy field, we will be much honored if you could accept our invitation to serve as a member of the Scientific Committee of this conference and guide us in the planning of the various scientific sessions. Based on the past meetings in this series, we are expecting 150-200 attendees. We plan to have 4 keynote lectures of 45 minutes each and 80 oral presentations of 20 minutes each. There will be two parallel sessions during the three days meeting. Enclosed please find a tentative agenda of the meeting. The First Announcement of this meeting will go live on the website:

The information listed in the website is a tentative draft. The committee membership is not final until we hear from you. If you have any comments and questions, please feel free to let me know.

We are looking for session chairs. It will be great if you can help by volunteering for this task.

Dear Colleagues,

The 4th RARAF Microbeam Training Course at Columbia University’s Nevis Laboratories in Irvington, New York will be held on May 19-21, 2014. The course is designed to provide a “pipeline” of researchers interested in the use and development of microbeam facilities for research in biology, radiation biology, and radiation physics.

Sponsored by the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB), the three-day course will be offered for the fourth time to a limited group of scientists, selected by an open competitive application process. Application to the program is open to graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and faculty with an interest in the use and development of microbeam facilities. Both foreign nationals and U.S. citizens may apply to the program.

The goal of this training course is to give physicists and biologists a thorough and hands-on introduction to microbeam technology. At the end of the course, participants should understand how microbeams work, what experiments can be performed using a microbeam, why these experiments are of biological interest, and how to perform these experiments.

As there will be a significant “hands-on” aspect, we plan for a maximum of 6 participants. The course will be designed to emphasize specific needs (e.g., imaging, designing a microbeam facility) as requested by the participants.

This intense program is taught by leading Columbia University biologists and physicists who are pioneers in the development and use of microbeam technologies.

Limited support for travel and housing will be available.

Interested applicants are required to submit:

1. a copy of their curriculum vitae

2. a statement (one page or less) of how they intend to use the knowledge gained from the course and whether they will need financial support.

Applications should be sent to Course Director Marcelo Vazquez, MD, Ph.D. by 5 p.m. PT, Monday, February 3, 2014.

A very limited number of participants will be able to arrange the shipping of biological samples before the course and stay afterwards to perform microbeam experiments using their own biological systems. Such arrangements will have to be made well before the course and approved by the RARAF staff.

コロンビア大RARAFのDr. Alan Bigelowより、2013年5月20-22日に開催される“Third RARAF Microbeam Training Course”の案内が届きました。 ニューヨーク郊外にあるRARAF施設の緑豊かな環境の中で、マイクロビーム研究を学べる良い機会です。 参加者は10名ほどに絞られ、「講義と実習」という固い雰囲気はなく、和気あいあいとした雰囲気の中でマイクロビームを用いた生物研究の知識・技術を深められると共に、英会話をしながら昼食を摂ったりするので自分の英語力を高めることができるコースです。 Travel supportもあるとのことです。締切日が迫っていますので、参加ご希望の方はお申し込みをお急ぎ下さい。
